New, temporary pedestrian routes around the east end of campus to be put in place after Commencement. Stay tuned for more information.
This summer, pedestrian ability to get around the east end of the Danforth Campus will be further limited due to work expanding to the west of the construction site.
Immediately following the May 18 Commencement, the site perimeter will expand further west to allow for work — including regrading and utility upgrades — to occur up to Brookings Hall, Cupples I, Crow Hall, Rudolph Hall and Busch Hall. This temporary change will require entry to, and exit from, these buildings from the west.
On the south side of the site, work will take place immediately adjacent to the north and west of Givens Hall. Access to Givens Hall will be available only from the south and east.
If construction remains on schedule, access to Brookings from north and south entrances will return to its current configuration in August in preparation for the 2018-19 academic year.
“We know this is an inconvenience and appreciate the community’s patience as we work to improve access on the east end,” said Jane Kojima, communications manager for the East End Transformation. “We’re still working through options to help with pedestrian traffic flow, including ensuring appropriate options and resources for those with accessibility needs. As soon as we have these details, we will share them with the campus community via additional communications.”
The short-term inconvenience, however, will be well worth it.
“The new landscape will bring nearly all of the east end to the same elevation,” Kojima said. “This means that once the East End Transformation is complete, for the first time there will be full accessibility from the east end of campus to the hilltop of the Danforth Campus.”

The online map will be updated frequently to reflect new pathways as they become available. In addition, information about accessibility resources for the summer will be shared in May.
