Construction began in May 2015 for the new Rubelmann House, a 72,000 square foot, four story building connected to the south side of Umrath House. This facility, which completes the vision for the central pedestrian zone of the South 40, will be ready for occupancy at the beginning of the fall 2016 semester.

Its exterior design will echo other recent buildings on the South 40, and create an iconic frontage along the north face of the Swamp. It will feature, at a minimum, 188 beds and is targeting LEED Silver Certification.

The project will provide:

  • Additional first-year semi-suite bedroom units to match Umrath House, which consist of two double bedrooms adjoined by a shared bathroom.
  • Study rooms and a floor lounge with kitchenette on every residential floor
  • A staff apartment for a Residential Community Director, an improved kitchen, an extension of the Umrath Main Commons, and a Collaboration Center on the first floor.
