A scene from Commencement at Washington University in St. Louis

The happiest day of the year is almost upon us. Here’s what you need to know about the east end during Commencement.

It just wouldn’t be Commencement without joyful WashU grads snapping photos on the iconic Brookings Steps. Not to worry: the steps have been fully restored and are ready for the big day.

Parking

The new underground East End Parking Facility will be open for Commencement guest parking. Hours are 5:30am Thursday – 6pm Friday. Cars may enter from Forsyth on the south side of campus or from Forest Park Parkway on the north side of campus. The automated gate arms are not yet operational, but staff will be on hand to direct traffic and let visitors know when the garage is full. Elevators and stairwells will be open to take visitors to the ground level. There is no charge to park in the East End Parking Facility on either day. The facility will close after Commencement and officially open August 1.

Note: Parking on campus will be limited. Guests are strongly encouraged to take a hotel shuttle, taxi or rideshare service, if possible.
Hotel shuttles may drop off guests at McDonnell Hall (78).
Uber, Lyft and taxi drivers may drop off guests at Goldfarb Hall (50).

MetroLink light rail also is a convenient and reliable option. Exit MetroLink at the Skinker Station. Metrobuses will not be operating on campus on Friday.
